Ms. Janice Shelton was born and raised in Knox County Kentucky. She has one child who attends high school. She enjoys spending time with her family. Janice has a passion for helping others and worked most of her life as an alcohol and drug counselor.   Her life has changed in many ways in the past two years. Two years ago she had a major health issue that has since caused her to be very restricted with her daily activities. This has also placed a strain on her financially.  Unfortunately she was not able to afford the needed repairs to her heating unit and complete basic seasonal home maintenance. She applied for the weatherization program and was approved.

The evaluator went out to Ms. Shelton’s home and completed an energy audit, the initial blower door reading was a 2879.  This let the evaluator know that the home was not energy efficient. A work order was completed and a couple days later, the crew went out to complete the work.  The crew installed insulation, minor repairs on the duct work, sealed any air leaks throughout the house and installed fire alarms and a carbon monoxide detector.  They also replaced the furnace, hood range and installed an air flow vent. The post inspection blower door reading was 980. This ensured that the home had been well weatherized and was more energy efficient. While interviewing Ms. Shelton, she stated, “This program was a lifesaver and I would not be able to continue living in the home without the needed repairs”. She also stated, “The crew members done a great job and made a tremendous effort to ensure her home was weatherized correctly.” She has stated that her current winter electric bill has been decreased at least by half. The program has assisted her with staying warm and having an affordable utility bill
